Good Night October

You’ve been a challenge and by no means have I done it perfectly but I’ve had fun. Here’s to continuing to post in November and I’m onto my next challenge of completing 60 miles (run, bike, walk, etc)! I saw the challenge posted by Julie at PB Fingers and thought it’d be fun. Here’s the link Pile on the Miles.
And here are my favorite guys 🙂 We had fun bowling with our church people tonight.

Truth

IMG_0414-0.JPG

I agonized for weeks over picking a word when I found out I got to participate with Dayspring. I pondered over phrases and words and verses. I have so many words up around my house from each year I’ve participated in OneWord365 (joy, trust, celebrate, free, and open). I thought maybe the word I picked could be mine for next year but that felt like jumping the gun.

I played with the idea of doing “both&” to remind me to look beyond my black and white thinking to see more. I almost wanted to do “faithful” or “good” or “true” or “beloved” but they all were not quite right.

I waited all the way until the last weekend to redeem the coupon and settled on my word.

Truth.

This year especially I keep reminding myself to go back to what is true, what is the truth. Whether that is a reminder that someone is on my side or that God is working it out, I want to so be grounded in the truth rather than let my perspective or perceptions or assumptions run wild. I can too often assume the worst or make up stories in my head that are not the truth. And so I landed here with truth as my word. To remind me of God’s truth.

The truth is we are loved, saved, redeemed, messy, alive, not alone, restored, and so much more. The truth is that He cares. He knows us and wants us to know Him.

I’m excited to put this reminder up on my wall to keep coming back to the truth in all situations.

What word would you make? You can go make one on Dayspring’s website. Check it out here.

*big thank you to Dayspring for letting me participate in such a fun thing and for giving me the letters!

I filled up my first “word” and didn’t quite feel done reading over those verses so I moved it to the bathroom to help keep me accountable for brushing my teeth for a full two minutes! There’s so much packed into the Bible and so much that God keeps speaking toward to me. I’m excited to see what fills up the new one on the fridge.

Weekend

So! I kind of love when life steps in and gets in the way of posting. Yesterday was one of those days where I soaked up all the family time and slept and just loved having a Saturday. We even got to try Bountiful Baskets (more on them another day) and took a funny picture of Asher for their photo contest. Now I’m ready for ice cream then bed!!

Oh and go vote for Asher!
Contest 🙂

Friday!

Today I’m grateful for…
1. Long walks with Asher and Boaz
2. A second walk with the husband
3. Husbands who get little boys to sleep
4. Time reading together
5. Yummy food

Spoiled

Pretty sure God is spoiling us with such beautiful weather in October. I’m sure thankful for these days where I can sneak outside for long walks with these two. I definitely often feel closest to God when I’m outside enjoying all that He created.

Letting Go

IMG_0318.JPG

Dear little man,

I’m realizing all over again about how so much of this journey includes learning to let go. I got to carry you around for nine months (granted, I only knew about you for like 7 and a half but still!) and then you got to be out in this crazy world where other people got to experience you even more. Already you’re showing your personality and liking being on your own playing some times (you still prefer to be with us though!). I know that sitting, crawling, walking, and running will come with all their own forms of letting you go. I prayed tonight that God would keep helping me let go of you more and more. I prayed that I would be able to teach you that you can make decisions on your own and wise ones too (and that you’d know asking for help is a sign of strength not weakness). I don’t want to control or run your life. Teach, train, guide, and love…absolutely. So, here goes for learning more and more to let go and put you back in God’s hands. Oh, and don’t sweat making mistakes…we all make lots of them and thankfully we can fall forward and we are still loved.
You are loved little man.
Love, Me.

Hard Things

IMG_0314.JPG

I saw Kelly Rae Roberts post this in her mirror and I’ve seen it on Momastery’s site. I just love it. I love being reminded that “we” not “I” can do hard things. We can do them together and we don’t have to go it alone. We can reach out and ask for what we need. We can make it happen. We can extend love, grace, and truth to each other as we each walk through our own hard things while helping carry the burdens. Now those kind of people who help carry your burden (and keep you accountable to carry your load) are the ones who stand with you doing the hard stuff that life throws our way. They’re the ones who help speak truth to you when you’ve forgotten. They say you are loved and you are not alone.

Love

There is something so fun about watching other people love well. Whether it’s watching others love my son or my husband, there is just a sweetness about it. I’ve loved watching my husband and my family love Asher. I can easily forget that these people love me well too. There’s a beauty in accepting love instead of denying it or being too prideful about receiving it. I want to keep on learning to, as Brene Brown says, not puff up or shrink down…to walk steadfastly in love and accept and receive being loved without expectations.
