2013 is here!! Since 2012 was an amazing year full of celebrating and goodness, in many ways it was hard to pick my word for the year, but a while ago this little word snuck its way into my heart anyway. Of course, at the last minute, I tried to bargain and find a “better” word, but I kept coming back to this one. I’m praying and expectant for another amazing journey of a year with God full of all sorts of twists, turns, mountaintops, valleys, and mostly Him! And so without further ado, I introduce to you all my word for 2013!
Hello 2013. Be Free: Spread Your Wings and Fly.
Expectations, assumptions, should’s, and so much more tempt me each day to live under their guilt, weight, and pressure. For too long have I bowed to the expectations of others and embraced my people pleasing personality instead of my God-pleasing self. I want to live full of freedom in Christ. God doesn’t want me to do things out of obligation, but out of love. The truth sets us free. Life isn’t meant to be a long list of rules or to feel like a prison. Life is meant to be lived to the full and lived abundantly. Whom the Son sets free is free indeed! Freedom is calling. My 2013 challenge is to spread my wings and learn how to fly free. A challenge to not conform to the world or to who other people want me to be. Instead, I can me be me. Perfect, unique, God-made me. Beautiful, messy, glorious me. Time to be free and let God show me what a life of God-given freedom looks like.
I will be “free” by embracing God’s purposes instead of my own or other people’s.

-I will let go of assumptions or expectations that aren’t from God.
-I will enjoy where God has placed me.
