Daring Bakers–YAY!

Yay!  I’m so happy this month actually turned out and was edible!  Here are the pictures:

The “fountain” that proceeded to literally fountain over shortly afterward.  Next time, I’ll use a bowl!  Live and learn on this one.  (I didn’t know what a fountain was until I “googled” it)

Waving while baking :)

Yay for super cute braided-ness :)

Finished product!!!  1 1/2 with apple filling and one with raspberry.  Delicious.  I definitely did not have to bake these as long as suggested–I must have a super powerful oven or something. :)

Ragamuffintop Week 5

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Raked a LOT of pine needles.  We raked for probably about 3-4 hours.  I am still amazed at the size of the pile we amassed.  I would have taken a picture, but I didn’t have a camera that worked with me.  I called that good enough for the day.

One More Day!

Tomorrow’s the big day!  Well…not *that* big day, but the big day as in the Daring Bakers unveil their/our creations and another Ragamuffintop post happens as well.  So here’s my big plan for the day:

  • Work out whenever the rain has stopped
  • Go grocery shopping for Daring Bakers supplies and a few other things–unless I decide to go tonight
  • Go to the bank to pay some rent and make some deposits
  • Finally make the Daring Bakers recipe!! Get ready, it’s going to be good and I have high hopes for this.
  • Get a haircut?
  • Oh and post a couple blogs.
Edit: Okay so apparently I posted before I re-read the recipe. The post date for the Daring Bakers is Sunday the 29th. Oops!  So, I’ll be good and wait :)

Close to Home

I’m feeling the weight of how short life can be sometimes.  A year and a half ago I lost a good friend to a car accident.  Today, I read about a man who was about to graduate who died in a car accident.  Also, here’s an e-mail I received today:

On Wednesday evening a rental group being led by one of our Shamineau Adventures (Camp Shamineau) staff was on a camping trip along the north shore near Grand Marais. While hiking and wading in the Temperance River, two women from the group, an adult leader and a high school camper, slipped and fell into the river and were swept away. CPR was performed on the scene by Shamineau Adventures staff and the group’s leaders until local paramedics arrived, but both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Please be praying for the families of the two that were lost, the others who were on the trip, and for our Shamineau Adventures staff that were with them. At times like this we have no quick or easy answers as to why, but we hang on to what we know about the goodness of our God.
So, tonight some extra time in prayer will be spent.  Anything I can be praying for you about?

Core Values

Churches often have “Core Values” unique to their situation, location, ect.  But how often do members even know or “value” these 7 or so principles?  How does a church embody and live out these values in such a way that they are evident?  How do you possible narrow down your Core Values when the Bible contains SO many great principles?  Plus, I often find myself mixing up Core Values and Doctrine.  I’ve been wrestling with Core Values for two weeks and I still feel overwhelmed.  I feel like I have so much to say and so many beliefs and values, but at the same time I’m speechless.  I don’t want to say anything because of all that I’m leaving out…  So what are your Core Values?  What would you want your church to value?  I’ll report back tonight or tomorrow after our Core Team meets and discusses more…until then enjoy the wrestling!

“In order to choose joy we need to focus on the things in life that can’t be replaced.” -Read the whole post here.

  • My dog Hoosier :) aww, I miss having him greet me when I get home.
  • Jesus

“Chase This Light”

Because tonight, the world turned in me.
Because right now, I don’t dare to breathe.
Oh, babe, I know, it’s alive and somewhere for us to find tonight,
Chase this light with me.

Apricots and Honey

Oh, Notting Hill how I love thee and the song that makes the movie.

Notting Hill= “When You Say Nothing At All”

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days= Shower Scene

After The Sunset=Deck Building

The Notebook=Rain in the boat

Jerry Maguire=You Had Me At Hello

Lion King=Tumbling down the mountain to “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”

Aladdin=Magic Carpet Ride

Sweet Home Alabama=Rain and lightning

A Lot Like Love–this is your life scence

“Love is our response to our highest values”

“Do you want me to tell you something really subversive?  Love is everything that it’s cracked up to be.  That’s why people are so cynical about it.  It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for.  And the trouble is, if you don’t risk anything, you risk even more.” -Erica Jong

Yep…..movies have corrupted me :)

Run: 25 minutes

Walk: 10-15? I didn’t keep track well.  I also walked to the beach if that counts. :)

Thoughts: I’m bored with life.

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Took the day off :) Went to work and then drove home (aka Alex).

Final thoughts: I started trying to drink more water toward the end of the week.  I’m going to do that again this week and also try to watch or log how much I’m eating.  Although, I don’t want to become crazy obsessive about logging, but I feel doing so would be beneficial since I really don’t keep track.  Other than that…I’m planning on continuing to train! :) yay
